A conversation with entrepreneur and author Tim Fargo, creator of the Tweet Jukebox.

Tim has over 190k Twitter followers, he built and sold a successful business for $20 million dollars, and Doug interviewed him while he was in Poland.  Tweet Jukebox is a great tool to automate your tweets and has thousands of users after just a couple of months. Here are some of the highlights:

• Tim believes that the only way to be successful is to help others.

• On Twitter- Created or curated content is OK, just make sure your content is compelling.

• Stay consistent to your theme.

• Start off doing your own customer service.

• Many big companies feel they have a marketing problem, but really they have an execution problem. If they would treat their customers better, they wouldn't have to work so hard to get new ones.

• A customer who shows up for price, will also leave for price.

• If you want to start a business, get a job in the industry first. You will be more successful if you learn about a business from the inside before  you try to do it yourself.

• Don't open a restaurant just because you like to eat food. Running a restaurant is different from being passionate about eating.

• #1 advice for starting a business- KEEP YOUR OVERHEAD LOW.

Hiring the wrong people can cost much more than you think, not only in lost productivity, but also in poor morale that can spread through your office like a disease. The Nice Guys can help you hire the right people the first time.

• We are moving out of the "Industrial Age" and into the "Social Age".

• Business is no longer just about the widget you are selling, it's about the people.

• Happy employees are more efficient, companies like Google and Zappos have built their culture around this.

• G-Mail came out of Google's 15% time, which encourages employees to spend 15% of their work week on a project they want to do.

• Post-it notes were invented because of 3M's "20% time".

• The IBM philosophy has always been "Hire the right people, point them in the right direction, and get out of their way."

• If you can't trust your people to be motivated, and work hard without a supervisor looking over their shoulder- You've hired the wrong people.

• Hiring the wrong person is one of the most expensive things you can do. Long term, the wrong person will drag the entire company down with poor productivity, and by spreading their bad attitude throughout.

Our interview today is with Jeff Sheehan, one of the world’s top followed B2B Sales and Marketing Professionals on Twitter specializing in Technology,  Integrated Marketing & Social Media. Jeff offers value to his clients as a Marketing Consultant And Speaker. Sheehan Marketing Strategies  is focused on helping businesses, professionals, non-profits and individuals be found through on and off-site SEO practices including Social Media platforms such as Google, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.  This contributes to further awareness of their marketing presence, increase in market share, and growth in sales revenue

Jeff has worked with Intel, Apple Computer, Cisco Systems, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, AT&T,Exxon, BASF, Dart & Kraft, Dow Chemical, Siemens, and Nordson, to name a few, as well as many small and midsize businesses.

Here are some of the highlights:

• Find out who you are. What do you represent? What do you want to do with your life? What are you good at? Figure THAT out, and run with it.

• Trying to find employment over 50 doesn't have to be difficult if you have a specific skill set that is in demand. "Generalists" will have a hard time being successful.

• Find one thing you do well, and be the best you can at that.

• Build your connections, your "personal brand" and your network.

• With you contacts, have the mindset of "what can I do to help you", not "what can you do for me."

• Follow people with common interests on Twitter, then connect with them on LinkedIn.

• Jeff's Book, Hired! Paths to Employment in the Social Media Era, is the result of 4 years of research and includes contributions from 28 different authors.

• There is a disconnect between hiring managers, talent acquisition managers, and candidates right now.

• Jobs are being vetted by committee now, multiple people need to approve a candidate before hiring today.

• HireVue is one company that interviews candidates on video and stores these interviews, so employers can watch these anytime without even contacting a candidate.

•  Don't "ride a wave" too long. If you feel a wave cresting, think about finding the net wave, or the next big thing.

On today's episode of The Nice Guys on Business Podcast we interview Jeremy Watkin, the director of Customer Service at When it comes to being nice and providing over the top, amazing customer service, Jeremy makes Doug and I look like newbies. • is an amazing solution for entrepreneurs. They are entrepreneurs so they love to support them.

• Jeremy was named in the top 100 Customer Success Influencers by MindTouch in May 2015, and number 17 in ICMI's Contact Center Thought Leaders in 2014.

• Remove any obstacle to help customers use your service.

• Empower your people

• Chronic multitasking does not make you more efficient, it only promotes mistakes. used to encourage their customer support team to chat with 1 customer and work on the phone with another…Until he tried it himself and found that he was mixing up the conversations.

• Twitter is not just a Facebook status update alternative. It can connect you with other people who do what you do.

• It's all about the customer experience. Not just about how the customer perceives your company, but how their feedback ultimately affects changes you choose to make in how you do business.

• Technology is changing customer service. Customers want to reach you by phone, E-Mail, chat, and social media, and you have to be ready for all of these. Set up channels for your customers to reach you all of these ways.

• Positive interactions on social media can be great for your reputation, but you need to have a system to direct complaints to a private space.

• Customers want feedback about how your company is dealing with customer feedback and complaints, and how quickly.

•'s CEO implemented a ban on the word "no" with customer service, and  even created a pop up warning for customer service reps if they used "unfortunately" in a response to a customer.

•  Jeff got to meet one of his mentors, Shep Hylen

• You choose your attitude every day.

• One of Jeremy's favorite quotes from The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People- "Seek first to understand before being understood"

In order to be successful, any business, no matter the size, should focus its attention on building a social media campaign with the following components in mind:

THE LIST- It’s a great idea to start here because any campaign, even an awesome one, will go absolutely nowhere if there is no one to promote a product or service to

BRAND- Would I know who you are if I saw your logo? Do you have a signature saying or slogan that’s easily recognizable?

CONTENT- What are you doing to be an expert in your industry? If you become the expert, others will point to you and they will promote your products as well.

CALL TO ACTION- When you create your message or your content, you must tell people what you want them to do.

HUMAN ELEMENT- Above all else, people like to feel as though they are connecting with other people, not machines.

Get away from The Monday blues, humpday happiness, stinkin’ thinkin’ and negative Nancy behavior. Stop letting excusitis lead your life. The following regimen of eight steps will help you build the proper antibodies required to ward off this horrible condition:

1. TAKE ACTION, FAST AND FURIOUS- Your best bet to keep Excusitis out of your life is to take action.

2. DON’T FEAR THE REAPER- Failure is a part of life. Stop fearing failure and embrace the lessons you learn from it.

3. DON’T ASK JEEVES- Asking the opinion of everyone around you will get you exactly where they are, nowhere.

4. CHEERLEADERS HAVE GREAT ASSETS- Look for the cheerleaders in your life, they are everywhere.

5. BE PASSIONATE LIKE ROMEO-  When you are passionate about something, nothing can stand in your way.

6. BE PRESENT OR SOMEONE MIGHT INFECT YOU- Keep your head in the game and pay attention to what is going on around you.

7. BE YOUR OWN CUPID AND LOVE UP- Along the way, it’s important that you reward yourself for some of the amazing accomplishments you have achieved.

8. QUIT TALKING TRASH- I can’t stress enough how important it is to speak well of yourself and to yourself.
